Field note
Price ladders that argue on the same shelf
2026-01-28
A coastal apparel brand selling from Danang listed S, M, and L at a tight step, then XL at a much higher figure because the mill charged more for that cut. On the product card the four prices appeared as a single range, so the card looked expensive. On the size picker the jump appeared without a line of copy.
People who wanted XL assumed a listing error. People who wanted M assumed the whole family had been repriced. Neither group wrote in; they simply closed the tab.
The reading recommended a separate XL listing with its own card, plus a short note on the original PDP that the generous cut is milled apart. The merchant kept one photo set. The argument on the shelf stopped because the ladder no longer pretended to be even.
When you read conversion on an assortment, look at adjacent prices the way a hurried thumb would: as a sentence. If the sentence stumbles, the cart will too.
